Five years have passed since Demon Slayer: Mugen Train hit theatres and became a massive success. The movie held the record as the franchise’s biggest earner until Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle came along and took that spot.

But here’s some exciting news for collectors and fans: the film is getting a premium physical release next year.

Crunchyroll recently announced that pre-orders are now open for the 4K version of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train.

Anyone interested can make a copy for themselves, and they’ll start to ship out starting January 13, 2026.

The package costs $71.98 and comes with a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray disc, plus a special accordion-style booklet and some bonus content (details of which are not fully out).

Story of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train

The story starts with Tanjiro, his demon sister Nezuko, and their friends Zenitsu and Inosuke boarding a mysterious train called the Mugen Train. Their mission is to help Kyojuro Rengoku, one of the most powerful Demon Slayers known as a Flame Hashira, track down a demon that’s supposedly hiding somewhere on the train.

Things start to take a turn when all the Demon Slayers suddenly fall into a deep sleep, and they can’t wake up from it.

This isn’t just regular sleep; it occurs when a dangerous spell is cast by Enmu, who’s ranked as Lower Rank One among the demons.

The film was a phenomenon when it came out in 2020. It made over $484 million at the box offices around the world, which was incredible for an anime movie.

Both critics and regular viewers loved it too. On Rotten Tomatoes, it got a 98% score from critics and an even higher 99% from audiences who verified their tickets. The movie also picked up several awards, including “Best Film” at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards and “Animation of the Year” at the Japan Academy Film Prize. These achievements show just how much the film resonated with people everywhere.

The Growing Collection of Demon Slayer Films

Since the anime first premiered back in 2019, the Demon Slayer franchise has been busy releasing movies. There are now two main standalone films and two compilation movies that recap certain arcs from the series. After Mugen Train came Demon Slayer: To the Swordsmith Village, followed by Demon Slayer: To the Hashira Training.

The newest addition to the lineup is Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle. This one is special because it’s actually the first part of a trilogy that will cover the “Final Battle” Arc. In this story, the Demon Slayer Corps finally confronts Muzan, the main villain, and his entire demon army inside the Infinity Castle. The stakes couldn’t be higher.

When you add up all the box office numbers, the Demon Slayer movies have collectively made over $1 billion worldwide. That’s a huge milestone for any franchise. Infinity Castle has now become the highest-grossing film in the series, bringing in more than $662 million. We don’t know yet when the next two films in the trilogy will come out, and there’s no confirmed date for when Infinity Castle will be available on streaming platforms either.

If you haven’t watched the series yet or want to rewatch it, all of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba is currently streaming on Crunchyroll. And if you want to add that special 4K edition of Mugen Train to your collection, pre-orders are live right now. It’s a great way to experience one of anime’s most emotional and action-packed adventures in the best quality possible.
