The holiday spirit is alive and well at one restaurant in Naples, Florida and the story behind their canceled Christmas party is melting hearts across the internet.
In a TikTok video posted by First Watch employee Heidi Paniagua, general manager Brendan Tompkins gathers the staff for what seems like disappointing news. He’s canceling their holiday party but for a reason that will leave you in tears.
“Everyone knows about Norman’s journey trying to adopt a baby,” Tompkins says. “Well, these guys decided that it was more important for us to donate all that money to you and your wife.”
The room immediately erupts into cheers and applause. Norman Vales, the coworker at the center of this surprise, is completely overcome with emotion and has to leave the room “to go cry,” according to Tompkins.

Employee Norman Vales had been in the dark about the real reason for the party cancellation. At the start of the meeting, he seemed perfectly fine with it, even waving his hand in acceptance and striking a comically chipper pose when Tompkins began speaking.
“So, something came to light,” Tompkins says as Vales hops into frame. “We are unable to have a holiday party this year. Sorry, something more important came up.”
The staff seems calm, even a little happy, about the announcement. Vales is about to discover why.
The video of this incredible display of generosity went viral, racking up millions of views and thousands of heartfelt comments from people moved by the gesture.
“That baby is going to have the best parents,” wrote one TikTok user. “God bless you Norman. You can tell youre the coworker everyone needs.”
Another noted, “Norman has those dad jokes in the arsenal ready to go.”
“I would work minimum wage the rest of my life if my coworkers and boss were this kind,” wrote someone else. Paniagua responded, “Exactly I stay here bc I’m with my family.”
The overwhelming support from Norman’s coworkers is a beautiful reminder that sometimes the best gifts aren’t found under a tree—they come from the hearts of the people around us. And for Norman and his wife, this holiday season just became unforgettable.
